TOPIC AND TEXT REFERENCE: MALE AND FEMALE PELVIC VISCERA PP 103-107, 113-118

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Identify the male and female reproductive organs.

Be able to trace the path of a spermatozoa from testis to urethra.

Be able to trace the path of an ovum from ovary to vagina.

Understand and the blood supply and innvervation to the reproductive organs.

Understand the ligaments and muscles that support the uterus.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR LAB TODAY:

Pg. 103 and 113: We have transected and bisected all the odd numbered cadavers. So each table should receive a half pelvis from a neighboring table. In this way you are able to study the pelvic viscera intact and bisected. Make sure you study both a male and female pelvis.

Pg. 104 and 115: Follow the dissector line by line to identify the male and female internal genitalia.

CLINICAL CORRELATIONS AND EXERCISES:

1. Why is the uterine artery coiled on the uterus?

2. What organ could be confused with the uterine artery during hysterectomy?

3. Which structures can be palpated, in normal and pathologic situations, by a digital rectal examination? by a vaginal exam?

4. What can be found in the rectouterine pouch?

KEY STRUCTURES:
You should be able to identify in a cadaver all the structures listed under key words unless they have an asterisk.
