SITES FOR AUSCULTATION

There are four sites for auscultation (where to put your stethoscope) when assessing the function of each of the heart’s four valves.
      Two in the 2nd intercostal space on either side of the sternum

  1. Aortic on the left
  2. Pulmonary on the right.

Two in the 5th intercostal space

  1. Tricuspid adjacent to the sternum on the right OR left side
  2. Mitral/Bicuspid at the mid-clavicular line on the left.

Also remember “APT. M” as the order for these locations
