|Topic and Text Reference | Learning Objectives | Special Instructions | Clinical Exercises | Key Structures
TOPIC AND TEXT REFERENCE: POSTERIOR ABDOMINAL WALL PP. 93-95
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Observe the usual order of the nerves of the posterior abdominal wall and learn the spinal levels from which they arise.Identify the different structures that run through the diaphragm, the specific hiatuses through which they run, and the spinal cord levels at which each hiatus is located.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR LAB TODAY
Pg. 93: Carefully remove the fascia from the posterior abdominal muscles as there are numerous nerves lying just under this fascia. Also note that there are often variations in the nerves of the posterior abdominal wall.Pg. 94: The medial and lateral arcuate ligaments of the diaphragm may sometimes be hard to identify.1. What parts of the diaphragm are susceptible to herniation?
KEY STRUCTURES:
You should be able to identify in a cadaver all the structures listed under key words unless they have an asterisk.
