Case II: Treatment (continued)

The CT scan of Mr. Mann's abdomen shows a large mass in the pancreas found by biopsy to be a gastrinoma. The patient will undergo exploratory abdominal surgery to determine whether the tumor can be wholly or partially resected. Usually the tumors are small and dispersed. Before surgery, an Octreatide Scan (octreatide is a synthetic somatostatin analog that binds to ZE tumors) is used to help localize the tumors.
