Activation of leukotriene synthesis
Both phospholipase A2 and 5-lipoxygenase are inactive when they are in the cytosol.
Activation (via increased cytosolic Ca2+ and phosphorylation) brings them to the nuclear membrane where they join FLAP (5-lipoxygenase activating protein).
Cyclooxygenases also associate with FLAP
FLAP brings the enzymes that produce and use arachidonic acid together into one complex.
