James' Unwanted Blood Clots

Introduction

James H is a 24-year old white male whose health had been excellent until June of this year.

In June James was brought to the emergency room suffering with a sudden onset of

  • chest pain
  • dyspnea (he was short of breath)
  • hemoptysis (he coughed up blood).
Pulmonary embolysm was diagnosed.
Venograms revealed thrombi (clots) in the left iliac and right femoral veins (the large veins of his legs).
