Leukotriene and lipoxin action during an alergic reaction
Move the cursor over the phase you wish to view:
Early Phase (5-30 min.)
1. Antigen-IGE complex binds to receptor on mast cell.
2. Phospholipase and 5-lipoxygenase become activated by moving to nucleus and associating with FLAP. 3. Leukotrienes are synthesized. 4. The leukotrienes activate leukocytes. |

Late Phase (3-12 hrs.)
1. Leukotrienes attract leukocytes and increase leukocyte production.
2. The leukocytes that are attracted produce more leukotrienes. 3. The inflammatory response is heightened.
Resolution phase
1. Many leukocytes are present and frequently interact with other cells.
2. These interactions promote lipoxin synthesis. 3. Lipoxins block LT receptors. 4. Lipoxns activate LX receptors on many cell types. (not shown)
